What every system has in common
- Only wins and losses count. Sets and points never change a rating, in any of the systems below.
- What you gain or lose depends on the rating gap: beating someone rated far above you is worth much more than beating someone below you.
- An unexpected loss costs more than an expected one.
Where they differ
Germany and Switzerland use a formula: the rating gap gives a win probability, and the change is the difference between what happened and what was expected. The USA, France, the Netherlands, Sweden and England use a points table instead: the gap selects a row, and the row says how many points the winner gains and the loser loses. Some weight the competition, some round per match and some per event, and they update at different intervals.

Each system was added to Trainoro’s calculator only after its federation’s official document had been read in full, and the calculator names that document and its date under every result. It shows what the published rules give for the matches you enter. It is not the official list, which the federations calculate themselves.
Calculate your own
In Trainoro you pick your federation, enter your rating and your opponents’, mark wins and losses, and see the change before the official list does.
