Swiss table tennis points and classes explained

Swiss Table Tennis rates players with Elo points, and each player’s class (Klassierung) follows from those points. The points change with every match you win or lose against another rated player.

The formula

change = 15 × (result − P)

P = 1 / (1 + 10(opponent’s points − your points) / 200)

The result is 1 for a win and 0 for a loss, and P is your win probability. A win can bring up to 15 points, a loss can cost up to 15: beating a much stronger player brings nearly all 15, beating a much weaker one almost nothing.

Updated once a month

Points are updated on the 10th of each month from the previous month’s results, and every match is scored against the same starting points. So one month is simply the sum of its matches — and you use your opponents’ current points, not what they had after an earlier match that month.

The regulation does not say how fractional points are rounded, so the changes are shown to one decimal.

Classes

The class follows from your points. The men’s A classes (A16–A22) are set each season from the rankings, so above B15 a class cannot be read off the points alone. The women’s classes follow the men’s points down to their B11 and have their own points below.

Formula and class tables follow the Swiss Table Tennis “Sportreglement” (as of 30 June 2026), Art. 14. Every number on this page is computed with the same rules as the calculator in the app; the official points are the ones published by Swiss Table Tennis.

Work out your points

Trainoro’s rating calculator does this for any month: enter your points and your opponents’, mark wins and losses, and see your new points and class. It runs on your phone, with no login.
